My tested-selcted phrenological abilities tell me that its because they are deeply insecure and can not deal with opposing view points, let alone active criticism. Since they lack critical thinking skills they are unable to support their superstitious views in the face of reasoned questioning, and therefore must try and silence any critics.

Specific to Fucknozzle Junior, he is a classic dilettante who learns the merest parts of a culture or topic before deciding that he is a true expert in it. When someone else who has a deeper, more personal knowledge comes along he blusters to try and distract from his dearth of actual knowledge, often resorting to the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.
